Intertek Certifies the Piloting Service Quality Standard of the Pilots Corporation of the Port of Cartagena

(Bilbao, Spain) Intertek, a leading provider of quality assurance to industries worldwide, has recently granted the Pilots Corporation of the Port of Cartagena (Spain) the conformity certification according to the Piloting Service Quality Standard of the State’s Ports.
The State’s Ports Services Quality Standards have been developed with the intent of increasing the port terminals service quality and improving their processes, responding this way to the needs of maritime transport, inland distribution and logistics services.
The Pilots Corporation of the Port of Cartagena has obtained the certification which demonstrates that they are a qualified piloting services provider. Indicators assessed include resources and equipment management, operations and services provision execution, cost efficiency and customer care service.
Ángel Monteagudo, Technical Director of Intertek Spain’s Business Assurance group, stated: “We are pleased to honor Pilots Corporation of the Port of Cartagena with the piloting service quality standard certification, which shows their engagement to offer the highest level of quality, enabling them to obtain a distinctive mark (conformity mark) that has a clear commercial effect”.
Spain has the largest coast extension in the European Union and is a highly relevant logistics platform as well as a strategic area for the international maritime transport. As such, the development of the Service Quality Standards in port activities has increasingly become more important. Intertek is authorized by the Spain Ministry of Development and the State Ports’ Public Body to certify the services quality provided by port terminals and shipping companies that operate in the Spanish ports. This concession has been issued according to the criteria based on the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17065:2012 standard.
