The Malaysia Government has approved the Trade Descriptions (Marking of Pre-Packaged Goods) Order 2023. It shall enter into force on 1 September 2023.

Pre-packaged goods manufactured, produced in or imported into Malaysia shall have the following information:

  • Product indication
  • Nominal quantity
  • Number of counts
  • Name and address of the wholesaler, producer, manufacturer or importer

The information shall:

  • Be legible
  • Be in national language or national language and any other language where the goods originated from Malaysia
  • Be in the national language or English where the goods originated outside Malaysia
  • Be in colour that is clearly different with the background of the goods
  • Have a minimum height of the fonts as shown in the table below

The actual quantity of the pre-packaged good shall not be less than the nominal quantity. However, different number of non-conforming packaging for different lot size are allowed to have negative error greater than the tolerance deficiency shown in the following table:

The negative error should not be greater than double the tolerance deficiency.

For goods declared in length and area, the tolerable deficiency allowed shall be 2% and 3% respectively of the nominal quantity for each packaging. 

For goods declared in counts, the actual quantity shall not be less than the nominal quantity if the count number is 50 or below. Where the count number is more than 50, the actual quantity shall not be less than the nominal quantity on average and the negative error is one piece for each of the beginning hundred.
