Table 9.1

This table is revised to remove the conflict with NFPA 90A. NFPA 262, the Standard Method of Test for Flame Travel and Smoke of Wires and Cables for Use in Air-Handling Spaces, is not permitted to be used to qualify plenum grade cable routing assemblies. It adds UL 723, the Standard for Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials, as an alternate test for qualifying plenum communications raceways and the only test for qualifying plenum cable routing assemblies. Other changes are editorial.

Section 11 (title) and 11.1.1

Since there will be two tests for plenum products, it is necessary to distinguish between NFPA 262 which is used for qualifying communications raceways only, and UL 723 which can be used for qualifying both cable routing assemblies and communications raceways.

11A

This is a new section to introduce UL 723 as the only test for qualifying plenum cable routing assemblies and as an alternate test for qualifying plenum communications raceways. It correlates with NFPA 90A sections 4.3.11.2.6(2) and 4.3.11.5.5(2).

16.2

New Surface marking requirements;

The following information shall be marked on the cable routing assembly or communications raceway by ink, embossing, indent printing, or by other permanent means at least every 5 ft (1.5 m):

a) The name of the manufacturer, that manufacturer’s trade name for the cable routing assembly or communications raceway, or both the manufacturer’s name and trade name, or any other acceptable distinctive marking by means of which the organization responsible for the raceway can readily be identified.

b) ²Plenum Cable Routing Assembly² if found to comply with the requirements in Test for Flame Propagation and Smoke Density Values of Cable Routing Assemblies and Communications Raceways (Plenum), Section 11A.

c) ²Plenum Communications Raceway² if found to comply with the requirements in Test for Flame Propagation and Smoke Density Values of Communications Raceways (Plenum), Section 11 or Test for Flame Propagation and Smoke Density Values of Cable Routing Assemblies and Communications Raceways (Plenum), Section 11A.

d) ²Riser Cable Routing Assembly² or ²Riser Communications Raceway² if found to comply with the requirements in Test for Flame Propagation of Cable Routing Assemblies and Communications Raceways (Riser), Section 12.

e) ²General-Purpose Cable Routing Assembly² or ²General-Purpose Communications Raceway² if found to comply with the requirements for Vertical-Tray Flame Test for Cable Routing Assemblies and Communications Raceways (General Use), Section 13.

16.3(b)

New Carton, reel or tag marking requirements;

The following information shall be marked on the carton or reel or tagged on each coil or bundle of cable routing assemblies or communications raceways:

b) The product type as indicated by 16.2 (b) – (e).

CUSTOMERS PLEASE NOTE: This Table and column "Verdict" can be used in determining how your current or future production is or will be in compliance with new/revised requirements.
