Sound Absorption Evaluation

Evaluate how your products affect the amount of sound absorption in a space

Regulate your product’s reverberation, improve speech intelligibility, and enhance the listening environment through sound absorption testing. You need to understand the ability of your building materials to control reflected sound and reduce noise levels.

Using our state-of-the-art acoustic facilities, you will experience industry-leading turnaround times, accurate measurements, and first-in-class customer service. With the ability to test to AAMA, ANSI, ASTM, ISO, and SAE standards, we have the expertise necessary for your sound absorption needs.

How do we measure sound absorption?

Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) and Sound Absorption Average (SAA)
Ratings are single number ratings used to rate the sound absorption performance of different acoustical products. The NRC is the average of the sound absorption coefficients at 250, 500, 1000, and 2000 Hertz; whereas, the SAA is the twelve frequency average from 200 to 2500 Hertz.

Random vs. Normal Incidence
Random incidence is measured in a reverberation room for large products such as wall panels, ceiling panels, office screens, bass traps, baffles, highway concrete barriers, and theater or airplane seats. Normal Incidence is measured in a two-microphone impedance tube and is typically utilized for automotive and aerospace materials on R&D work.
